How To Get Started
- Review our current volunteer and intern opportunities below. You can note your interests in the application.
- Complete our Volunteer Application below. Applications are reviewed weekly.
- Watch for an email from our Volunteer Coordinator to schedule a meeting and learn next steps.
- Meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss volunteer needs and roles you're interested in.
- Complete required screenings. This includes entering information into our background check database, Praesidium, and adding references in Checkster.
- Complete our online Child Abuse Prevention training in Praesidium. Once screenings and training are complete, we will connect you with the department head for the program you have been matched with.
Current Volunteer & Internship Opportunities
🛎️ Member Services Volunteer
Volunteers help create a welcoming and clean environment for all members and visitors. Light cleaning and organization, friendly guest support, and facility tidiness. Flexible hours.
🍏 Healthy Living Class Volunteer
Assist instructors for evidence based chronic disease prevention and management programs to help ensure a safe and fun class environment.
🎲 Teen Center Drop In Program Volunteers
Support a safe environment where teens build healthy relationships and self reliance through Y values. Any day works for crafts and board games. Specialty themes vary by day.
🧒 Early Learning Center Program Volunteer
Play and interact with children. Help during activities and meal times. No diaper or bathroom duties. Mon to Fri 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Pick a day and time that works for you.
🏀 Youth Sports Basketball Coaches
Help kids build confidence and love of sport. No experience necessary. Winter league Jan 5 to Feb 19. One 45 minute practice and one 45 minute game per week. Practices Mon or Tue. Games Wed or Thu. Start times 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
⚽ Youth Futsal Coaches
Support our competitive Youth Futsal League focused on development, teamwork, and game play in a fun and focused environment. Season: Apr 20 to May 21. Practices M-Th 5-8pm. Games Saturdays 3-7pm, Sundays 10am-2pm.
⚾ Teeball & Baseball Coaches
Teeball/Baseball Clinic: 4/13-4/23 (practices 4pm–7:15pm). Teeball/Coach Pitch League: 4/27-6/4. Practices Mon/Tue starting 4pm. Games Wed/Thu after 5pm.
🏃 Trail Blazers Running Coach
After-school elementary trail program exploring local Bellingham trails. Must be available Thursdays 12:15 - 3:00pm.
🥾 Tiny Trekkers
Lead family hikes Thursdays 10:30am - 11:30am.
📋 Sports Department Spring Internship
Support sports programs by creating lesson plans, building rosters, running practice, and everything in between.
☀️ Sports & Recreation Summer Internship
Gain hands-on experience helping coach and lead youth in a variety of summer camps.
🏃♀️ Girls on the Run Internship (Any Season)
Learn and support the ins and outs of this nonprofit community program.
