NEW! Teen Trail Blazers

The Teen Trail Blazers program is dedicated to helping youth explore, expand and improve fitness potential. The summer program is designed for the seasoned runner and will focus on strength, flexibility and consistency. 

This program is for boys and girls ages 10- 14 who can run consistently for two miles and are in good physical condition. A YMCA van will pick runners up at their middle schools before heading to various trails. 


Boys and girls entering 5th - 9th grade (10-14 years old)


July 10 - August 28 (no program July 24)


Wednesdays    10:00 am - 12:30 pm


YMCA Van will pick up/drop off at Whatcom, Fairhaven and Kulshan Middle Schools


$60 Y members
$65 non Y members

About The Trail Blazers Program

The Trail Blazers program encourages youth to use trail running as a fun way to stay fit for life. We foster lifelong connections to nature and community through running, outdoor exploration and community service. 

Each seven week session focuses on building endurance and improving physical health. Boys and girls are encouraged to move at their own pace while challenging themselves to improve throughout the session. Service projects are completed to expand participant’s awareness of ways they can make a difference in their community.

Registration can be done online or in person at any Whatcom Family YMCA location.

Girls on the run 5k

Twice per year Trail Blazers have the opportunity to train for and complete the Girls on the Run 5K. This will help runners realize their innate ability to accomplish hard things, as well as what it feels like to set and achieve a goal.
