BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN THE WATER
Swim Lessons (all lessons are 30 minutes in length)
- It is important for children to be placed in the correct swim level based on their current abilities. Students in a class that is too challenging will have to be placed in a lower level that may be full. If you are unsure of what level to register your child, please contact Michelle, Aquatics Director, 360-255-0637 or mmartinson@whatcomymca.org.
- Please do not arrive early for swim lessons. Access to the pool area will be allowed 3-4 minutes prior to lesson start time. After lessons please exit the pool area promptly to allow for appropriate social distancing.
- Each class must have a minimum of 3 students for the class to run.

INFANT/TODDLER
Ages 6-36 months
Overview: Accompanied by an adult, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. Parents work with their children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills. Adult is required to be in the water.
PRESCHOOL
Ages 3–5
Overview: Beginners will develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming. Students learn personal water safety with essential skills in all classes. Adult is not required to be in the water.
YOUTH
Ages 6-11
Overview: Students work on refining stroke technique and learning all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke. Students will learn about competitive swimming and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle. Once students are able to successfully swim a length of the pool unassisted in any of the strokes, they are eligible to register for the Advanced Class.
