Y vans could previously be seen carrying laughing kids to various activities, since the onset of COVID 19, the Whatcom Family Y has pivoted its' van usage to helping deliver food to those individuals and families facing food insecurities.
With the assistance from the Whatcom Food Security Task Force, the Y is currently helping to deliver 700 Boxes of food twice a week to various individuals and families experiencing food disparities. These weekly deliveries consist of boxes of fresh produce, dry goods such as rice, pasta canned fruits and vegetables and protein for the week.
"Our goal is simple, though by no means easy: To ensure food security for all Whatcom County residents, particularly those with barriers to food access (economic, mobility, health, etc.), while maximizing nutrition and minimizing health risks during the Covid-19 pandemic."
