What is Enhance®Fitness?

Enhance®Fitness is a proven community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program that will help you become more active, energized and empowered for independent living. This program is provided onsite at local senior facilities, meaning you don't have to leave home to participate (note: locations are currently limited).

The Y provides all necessary equipment (weights, chairs and music). Exercises are done in a manner to maintain safety and enable full participation. A chair is available for balance or seated exercise. Classes are limited to 15 participants per instructor to provide close monitoring of form and safety. Instructors will conduct pre- and post-fitness assessments for each 4-month session to track participant progress.

Why should I take Enhance®Fitness?

While the program is especially beneficial for older adults living with arthritis, we serve seniors at all fitness levels. On average, participants who regularly attend this program will experience improved physical and social functioning, decreased depression and isolation, and will likely have fewer hospital visits, which lowers health care costs. In addition to the physical support, we create an atmosphere that encourages social interaction, which is a vital part of mental well-being for everyone.

When does the program take place?

Sessions take place three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) over 16 weeks. Each one-hour class is led by a certified instructor who focuses on cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance—everything older adults need to maintain health and function as they age.
