YMCA Diabetes Prevention and Lose to Win Programs Begin In January

Two great programs are beginning in January to help you on your health and wellness journey.

YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program

More than 200 Ys across the country help thousands of people reduce their risk for developing type 2 diabetes with YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. This virtual small-group program helps people with prediabetes eat healthier, increase their physical activity and lose weight, which can delay or even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.


What is Type 2 Diabetes? 

Type 2 Diabetes is when the body still makes insulin but does not use it properly. This can be due to genetics, lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise, age or a combination of all mentioned. Overtime, chronic high blood sugar levels can lead to serious health issues such as neuropathy, glaucoma, cataracts, kidney disease, high blood pressure and even stroke. Type 2 Diabetes affects more than 29 million people and while some people can control it with diet and exercise, others may need medication like insulin. Regardless, the YMCA can help you prevent it. 


What is Prediabetes? 

Chances are you know someone with diabetes, but chances are even higher you know someone with prediabetes. In fact, 1 in 3 people have prediabetes and of that group, 9 out of 10 don't know they have it. Prediabetes is a common condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. Because of this, prediabetes is often not taken seriously and goes untreated. When left untreated. Prediabetes WILL turn into Type 2 Diabetes, it's only a matter of time.

1x per month maintenance session 2-25

This program will help you learn to listen to your body and understand that diet is bio-individual, meaning what works for one person may not work for another. 


Every day we are bombarded with conflicting diet and exercise information, each claiming to hold the exclusive key to weight loss. The Y’s Lose To Win Program is built on the idea that, given the right tools, you have the answers within you to achieve your goals.
