THAT SAVE LIVES
Safety Around Water
This program for non-swimmers is free for all children 5-11 years in Whatcom County.
Drowning can happen nearly anywhere with standing water. As a parent or caregiver, you need to equip your children with the tools they need to be confident in and around water so they don’t lose out on the health benefits of exercise, the opportunities to bond with family and friends and the sense of accomplishment when they learn new skills.
Teaching children how to be safe around water is not a luxury; it is a necessity. The YMCA’s Safety Around Water program can help you make sure they learn essential water safety skills, which can open up a world of possibilities for them. For more information . . .
The Y will provide a 5-day program to help children learn how to respond if they find themselves in an unexpected water situation, from how to reach the water’s surface if they submerge, to safely reaching a pool’s edge and exiting any body of water.
"All children deserve access to water safety resources that not only could save their lives, but enrich them with an outlet for fun, healthy activity."
Tish O’Keefe, Aquatics Director, Whatcom Family YMCAThis program made possible by a grant from the YMCA of the USA's Strategic Initiative Fund.
